The Poetry Foundation is a literary foundation that was formed from Poetry magazine. The foundation was founded in 1941 to promote poetry in the wider culture. Special resources and events are offered through the foundation, such as the Harriet Monroe Poetry Institute – an independent forum for poets, scholars, educators, and others to discuss poetry, scheduled poetry readings, staged plays, and a 30,000-volume library.
